Pensioners plan after-work life

The British government has announced plans to write to every pensioner in the country telling them the age they are most likely to die. It says telling people their likely life-expectancy will help people plan their spending priorities. VoR's Sasha Twining spoke to Michelle Cracknall, the chief executive at the Pensions Advisory Service. The Voice of Russia News.

Fears over missing children in care in London

Evidence has emerged that some London boroughs have no idea about some of the children they legally care for. Around 1,600 children have gone missing at some point in London while under the care of a local authority. Some boroughs were able to provide the date but others could not. VoR’s Juliet Spare reports.

Artists work reveals air pollution

"Painters like William Turner created more than art when they captured a sunset, said scientists Tuesday who found that shades of paint can be historic pointers to atmospheric pollution. Dusk scenes tended to be redder after major volcanic eruptions that spew Sun-reflecting sulphur particles, or aerosols, into the atmosphere, said the team from Greece and Germany." By P. Computers recognise 21 facial expressions that combine six human emotions

Tim Ecott reports over on The Voice of Russia. Scientists at Ohio State University say they have identified 21 facial expressions that betray human emotions. Normally there are six basic emotions but the study says that people are capable of producing expressions that combine conflicting feelings. The Oxford psychologist and body language expert Dr Peter Collett told VoR's Tim Ecott he's not entirely surprised by the findings.

Royal Mail: Government defends privatisation after NAO criticism

The government has defended the privatisation of Royal Mail last year, despite a scathing report from the government’s spending watchdog. The National Audit Office (NAO) said the sale was rushed and the business could have been sold at a higher price, making an extra £750 million for taxpayers. Business Secretary Vince Cable today defended the flotation, saying it had achieved its objective of selling shares in the company. VoR’s Hywel Davies reports.

Muslim Brotherhood: British government orders probe into London base

A post originally shared by Natasha Moriaty. British Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered an urgent investigation into the London base of the Egyptian political party the Muslim Brotherhood. There are fears that the organisation could be planning extremist activities in Britain. The Brotherhood is Egypt's largest and oldest Islamist organisation and controlled the Egyptian government until Mohammed Morsi was ousted from the presidency last July. Natasha Moriarty reports.

Nick Griffin says: UKIP is a pale carbon copy of the BNP

The party has been accused of promoting racist views, but they claim that there are plenty of British voters who think they're doing the right thing.
